Sussex Sleep Services helps with education for General Practitioners

By Dr Peter Venn

I was delighted to give a 90 minute webinar for general practitioners as part of the South Downs Health and Care Federation Educational Programme for primary care last week.

I talked about the classification of different sleep disorders that present to primary care and some screening questionnaires which are useful to point towards a diagnosis. I went on to examine the problems of snoring and breathing disorders in sleep such as obstructive sleep apnoea, and a discussion of who should and who does not need treatment.  I finished by talking a bit about insomnia and its current guidelines for treatment.

Feedback was very good, and as a result I have now been invited to take part in some educational podcasts for GPs, which I was delighted to accept.

My colleague Professor Adrian Williams also talked on behalf of Sussex Sleep Services to South London GPs the week before, so Sussex Sleep Services is maintaining a high-profile in helping with ongoing education for primary care physicians.
